enchanting moments + beautiful food

Delicious food was on the menu as usual, but no words this week - too busy drawing. You can see progress via my Twitter (@llucyyu), Facebook ( Lucy Yu { Artwork } ) or on Instagram (@artemuse).

!!!

Upon completing that sentence, the earth trembled. Literally. These mini-earthquakes in Wellington are slightly worrying…

Back to toast for breakfast this week.

Still not over this Zany Zeus greek yoghurt (can you tell)?

Stopped by at Enigma Cafe on Courtenay place before Wing Tsun class. Not extremely impressive. An iced coffee took over 15 minutes to arrive (the barista was not informed), and though I must say the risotto ball looks pretty good in the picture, the inside was a bit squelchy and did not offer that Arancini-like texture combination of crunchy shell and soft gooey rice I hoped for. Plus it was still cold in the centre.

Have not had Burgerfuel for a long time - glad to report it is still consistently tasty. And big.

It has also been a good time for steaming hot Moccona in giant mugs. Soothing and warm for tummy and hands!

And to warm the heart on those coffee breaks - HONY
Such as this.
And this

Easter Friday = picking up family from the airport.

Catch up over afternoon snack of chunky french fries (not pictured as they disappeared too quickly..) and a soy hot chocolate.

At the super busy and very scenic Scorch-o-Rama Cafe, Scorching Bay, Wellington.

Sometimes working at home poses too many diversion (and even if they are productive diversions, they are distractions nonetheless!)

Made a workspace in Havana cafe one morning. Drawing a miromiro over a soy flat white <3

More salad.

Lunch with friends at Rata cafe, in Zealandia (Karori Wildlife Santuary) - my choice was this unexpectedly huge Vege Stack, with gruyere cheese, spinach, roasted tomato sandwiched between grilled Portobello. A bit light on flavor, but very fresh and tasty :)

Not to show off or anything, but in such desperate times of shortage, I still have Marmite…! Seriously though I am a bit confused as to how our national crises compares to that of riots in Spain, or Aung San Suu Kyi and the change in Burma…

Still, national pride is always important.

I’ve wanted to try the pizza bread at Abrakebabra, Courtnay Pl, for ages - I have to say it was a little disappointing. Not much topping and not much flavor either… good bread though :)

Very into making salads for lunch lately…a big medley of yummy things tossed together. Variety is the spice of life!

Medley usually include:

Mesculun, olives, tofu, almonds, walnuts, sesame seeds, egg, avocado (a must), feta, hummus, mustard dressing or vinegar, smoked paprika, and any worthy or suitable leftovers.

Latest secret ingredient in salad making (and cereal and baking) is local brand Zany Zeus - their Greek yoghurt…seriously. It seems to make almost anything 2x as tasty.

Banana-Date Loaf (recipe from Edible Existence here)

Can’t get easier (or tastier) than this.
And the delicious waft of fresh banana bread, hot out of the oven….

Some sweet treats for the cooling weather..

I don’t think I will ever look at a $14 Tiramisu from a restaurant in the same way - however good it is. Making this decadent dessert is incredibly easy.

It gets better though - this is Breakfast Tiramisu! (Joy of Baking)

Ricotta is so recipe-friendly, and is lighter than mascarpone, yet still so creamy. I used a great local product - Zany Zeus ricotta. Also I have omitted berries as I didn’t have any..but there will be a next time! :)

Give it a go! Who says you can’t have dessert for breakfast.

Have been cooking more lately, yay! Some creations.

[ note to self: blueberries look very mediocre as topping on chocolate ganache. Still tastes good though! ]

Roast vege tart from Finc Dining Room/Espresso Lounge, Wellington.
An old school friend came to visit us, and we went out for breakfast.
This caught my eye as soon as I walked in but of course I had to investigate all the other truly tasty looking cabinet foods first just to end up back where I started..
T’was well worth it. The crust was amazingly light and buttery, and the bits of melted goat’s cheese just made it for me. Some of the pumpkin could have been roasted more, but that’s just me. Deeelicious as a late breakfast/brunch!
